You started your own business to do what you love and live your best life doing it! WOOOOT… it’s exciting, freeing and soooo worth it! Right?!

Sometimes…

But a lot of the time… NOPE.

All the online gurus show how exciting everything is - fancy retreats, travel, cocktails at 2pm on a Wednesday. But, that’s just not realistic for most business owners… and no one talks about it!

You’re successfully running a business. You’re making money, clients are coming in, you’re crushing their expectations, everything is going as planned.

But inside you feel frustrated, empty, overwhelmed, behind, like a fraud… just not ok.

You’re not alone my friend.

What is the purpose of this blog? In true TVA PTBO fashion, we’re gonna say all the things you keep to yourself… Here we go!

Let’s talk about all the things that don’t get said

It’s not you, that client is just an asshole.

  1. You will absolutely question every decision you've ever made at 2am on a Tuesday for no reason at all.

  2. Some days you will want to burn it all down and get a job with a pension and a lunch break that isn't eaten over your keyboard.

  3. The loneliness of running a business is real! You will have to make a decision that affects everything and there will be no one to run it by.

  4. You will do work you're not proud of just to pay the bills.

  5. The people who love you will not always understand what you're going through. And it will be SUPER annoying when they say "just take a break" or "try not to stress about it".

  6. You will have a launch, a campaign, a post or an idea that you were SURE was going to be the thing... and it will not be.

  7. You will send an invoice and hold your breath every single time, no matter how long you've been doing this.

  8. The business you imagined may never show up.

  9. Boundaries will cost you clients, money and sometimes relationships.

So, how do we fix this?

You don’t.

Being a business owner is exhausting, exciting, rewarding, stressful and every other emotion you can come up with. Half the things on that list aren’t problems to solve, they’re just a part of it.

All you can do is control how you handle them.

  • Yes it took you a little longer to answer, but you never promised same day responses

  • Yes they’re paying you but that doesn’t mean you’re their bitch

  • Yes you chose to start your own business but that doesn’t mean you have to say yes to everything

You don’t have to pretend this part doesn’t get to you to be successful.
