New year, new me... just kidding! 6 MORE micro changes to make in your business this year
Last blog I shared 5 micro changes you can make to get the most out of 2025.
Here’s a quick recap of that blog if you don’t want to go back and read the full thing (although it is a good one).
I don’t do New Year’s resolutions anymore because they always feel temporary and I’ve found that small yet consistent changes throughout the year work better for me. No grand declarations, just little tweaks that make my life run smoother.
Here are the 5 micro changes I shared in the last blog
Prioritize self-care
Set boundaries (and stick to them)
Stay on top of your finances
Audit your expenses
Delegate like a pro
And now, here are 6 more changes you can make in 2025 to make it the best year in business yet
1. Create templates for repeated tasks
Simplify your workflow and reduce decision fatigue.
Listen. Templates are your friend. If you’re writing the same email or creating the same kind of invoice from scratch every time, it’s time to template.
They save time, reduce errors and make you look super organized (even if your desk is covered in coffee mugs).
Quick win: Start small. Duplicate the next proposal, email, meeting agenda you make and label it “TEMPLATE”.
Next time you go to do that same thing, make a copy of your template and update the information. You’ll never look back.
Bonus tip: When you duplicate the template, highlight the details that need to change each time. That way when you go to use it, you just have to change the highlighted bits.
2. Build processes that work for you
Establishing systems ensures consistency and scalability without constant oversight.
You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. The simpler they are, the better they work.
Whether it’s onboarding a new client or scheduling social media posts, having a step-by-step system means you’re not reinventing the wheel every time.
Quick win: Choose one area of your business that feels chaotic. Record yourself doing repetitive tasks (Loom is a great way to do this) and paste the link into a Google doc.
Bonus tip: Use an app like Scribe to create a process doc on the spot, or a transcription app to turn your Loom into a written doc.
3. Automate & integrate what you can
Save time and reduce repetitive tasks to stay focused on strategic work.
Automation isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a game-changer. From scheduling social media posts to automating invoice reminders, the right tools can save you hours each week.
Beyond automation, consider integration. Connecting your tools (like syncing your calendar with your project management system) can streamline workflows even further.
Quick win: Identify one repetitive task that you can automate and set it up. Start small with tools like scheduling software or email auto-responders.
Bonus tip: Explore tools like Zapier or Make to create automated workflows between your favourite apps. For example, automatically save email attachments to your cloud storage or send a Slack reminder when a new client form is submitted.
4. Flexibility (not just for yoga sessions)
Even with the best plans, things can and will go off course.
Flexibility isn’t just for reacting to external challenges; it’s also about being kind to yourself. Some days won’t go as planned, and that’s okay.
Progress isn’t linear and giving yourself grace is part of the journey.
Quick win: When faced with an unexpected challenge, pause and ask, “What’s the next best step?” This mindset shift helps you adapt quickly without getting stuck in the moment.
Bonus tip: Build flexibility into your schedule by leaving buffer time between tasks or meetings. This way, if something overruns or life happens, you won’t feel like everything’s falling apart.
5. Regularly reflect on what’s working (and what isn’t)
Reflection isn’t just about fixing what’s broken, it’s also about doubling down on what’s working.
Sometimes, we overlook our strengths while focusing on problems. Identifying these high-impact areas helps you do more of what’s effective.
Taking time to reflect on your practices helps you identify what’s driving progress and what’s holding you back. Regular reflection ensures you’re continuously improving rather than coasting on autopilot.
Quick win: Set aside 10 minutes at the end of each week to review your wins and challenges. Ask yourself: “What worked well? What didn’t?” Use your insights to refine your approach for the upcoming week.
Bonus tip: Use a simple framework like Start-Stop-Continue: Identify what you should start doing, stop doing, and continue doing for the upcoming week or month.
6. Invest in professional development
Continuous learning keeps you sharp and ready for new challenges.
Professional development isn’t just about learning new skills; it’s also about expanding your network and gaining fresh perspectives. Whether it’s attending a webinar or reading industry blogs, these small efforts keep you connected and inspired.
Quick win: Choose one area for professional growth and commit to it, whether it’s taking a course, reading a book each month or attending a networking event.
Bonus tip: Create a “learning wishlist” with books, podcasts or courses you want to explore. Tackle one item from the list each month to keep growing without overwhelming yourself.
Final thoughts: small changes, big impact
Resolutions might fizzle out by February, but these micro changes can stick with you all year long and can be implemented at any time!
So, here’s to 2025 - the year of big progress and small wins.
